Bomb Threat Forces Partial LaGuardia Evacuation

Passengers traveling out of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B were faced with delays Saturday morning after the terminal was evacuated due to a bomb threat.

According to the New York Post, the threat was delivered around 7 a.m. Saturday morning after a male passenger had an altercation with a Spirit Airlines ticket agent. The man was reportedly trying to purchase a ticket when he argued with the Spirit Airlines rep.

Although he walked away from the altercation, he returned with a bag which he allegedly told the employee contained an explosive device.

The man was arrested and the bomb squad was called to the scene, causing an evacuation of the ticketing area of Terminal B.

A representative for the Port Authority told the Associated Press (h/t Seattle Times) that airport had returned to its normal operational schedule by 9:30 a.m.

The delay is the second in less than a month, after Terminal B suffered a partial power outage in late September, forcing the temporary closure of Concourse D. Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue and Southwest are among the airlines that operate out of Terminal B.

LaGuardia Airport is in the midst of a multi-billion-dollar renovation, which should be complete in 2021.
